  • ITMAF has dispersed over 100,000 dollars to Trans, Nonbinary, and Gender Diverse Iowans through the course of 26 application cycles since June 2021. In this process, we have give aid to over 200 folks, many of whom are repeat applicants.

  • To apply, please fill out our application. Applications open once monthly. Once your application is submitted, you will need to complete a phone call with an ITMAF board member. One we’ve chatted with you, your application is forwarded anonymously to our Review Committee, who will decide if you receive aid. After that, we will reach out and let you know if you have received aid! If approved, aid will be dispersed within a week.

    This entire process spans one month, so plan accordingly if you are waiting for aid.

  • We provide aid for gender affirming care. This care includes:

    This care includes:

    • Transition-specific clothing (binders/tucking garments), make up and wigs

    • Hormone Replacement Therapy

    • Therapy co-pays

    • Doctor visits for gender-affirming care (HRT, top and bottom surgery referrals)

    • Top and Bottom surgeries, FFS

    • Name change fees

    • Laser hair removal

    Travel expenses related to accessing gender affirming care out of state.

    At this time, we do not provide aid for rent, utilities, or other medical care.

  • Applicants can reapply monthly as needed. Please keep in mind that approval for aid one month does not guarantee approval for every following application.

  • The Iowa Trans Mutual Aid Fund is a small mutual aid organization. Although we disperse roughly 12,000 per month, we often have over 50 approved applicants. As a result, we are able to provide micro grants to applicants, which may or may not cover your entire request. Our average grant amount is 200 dollars, but fund availability changes each month.
